PelotonU offers alternative to Starbucks’ online education
Más Wired | | 4:41 pm
By Hudson Baird, Executive Director of PelotonU
Popular opinion suggests the overwhelming priority for Latinos is immigration reform. Yet a study from the Pew Research Center found immigration was the fourth most important issue, with education taking first place. In Texas this is especially important, where only 16% of Latinos hold a Bachelor’s degree and only 40% of hispanic students graduate from college in six years. Current two and four years schools are struggling to graduate minority students, and this makes new approaches to post-secondary completion especially relevant.… more

VChain Solutions innovates the supply chain
Sara Inés Calderón | June 23, 2014 | 2:57 pm

In 2005 he left his job at Motorola to found VChain Solutions with the intent to build that solution, to make supply chain more proactive and less prone to errors.
The Austin-based company is a supply chain solutions company that offers supply chain software and consulting, but is also invested in creating the next generation of supply chain professionals.… more

Forget transplants, TeVido can now print new organs
Sara Inés Calderón | May 27, 2014 | 1:14 pm
The future of medicine is being developed in El Paso, Texas, at a company called TeVido BioDevices. The technology combines medicine and 3D printing in such a way as to allow scientists to take skin and fat cells and, using 3D printing technology, create a piece of flesh made of your own cells.
“I was just blown away,” is how Laura Bosworth, CEO of TeVido, describes feeling when she came across this technology at the University of Texas at El Paso in 2010. Bosworth had retired after decades’ worth of experiences as an executive at IBM and Dell, and had gone home to El Paso to work with entrepreneurs at UTEP in hopes of fostering innovation.… more

Elaine Rita Mendus | May 26, 2014 | 11:46 pm
What do DREAMers and other immigrants need the most when it comes to pursuing legal status? How about a one stop destination?
In 2012, Más Wired wrote about LexSpot, a service that focused on providing easy access to the necessary resources for immigrants in the United States. LexSpot, however, has redesigned and re-launched, as BridgeUS, and now provides a new service — access to immigration attorneys at a reasonable price. This feature allows immigrants the opportunity to have their applications reviewed by lawyers without going through the entire process with a lawyer, thus saving the applicants money.… more
